A Killoe resident awoke to find two men attempting to ransack his house in a botched raid in Killoe at the weekend.

The victim is believed to have been alerted to the break-in at around 4:30am on Sunday morning, forcing the intruders to flee empty handed.

It’s not known how the suspects gained entry to the private residence before gardai were later alerted, leading to a series of searches in the local area.

A short time later, officers attached to both the Granard and Longford Garda Districts stopped a black Honda Civic where they arrested a woman driver and two male occupants in the back seat.

Two of the suspects were brought to Granard Garda Station for questioning with a third accomplice being transported to Longford.

All three, who are in their late 20s and early 30s and from the Dublin area, were later charged in connection to the incident in a move Garda sources are linking to its ongoing Operation Aimsir initiative, a nationwide offensive aimed at tackling rising burglary rates.
