Planning officials are set to rule on the next stage of the proposed redevelopment of St Mel’s Cathedral later today (Wednesday).

The decision focuses largely on re-design works relating to the historic building’s interior, ranging from large-scale facelifts to is sanctuary area as well as the construction of a lift to allow for access to its crypt, ground, first and second floors respectively.

News of the imminent ruling comes as construction workers continue to press ahead with works to replace over 20 of the Cathedral’s limestone columns and pilasters as part of a €30m redevelopment project.
