Members of Longford Town Council have vowed to have the divisional drugs unit relocated to Longford in the coming months, following a lengthy discussion in relation to drugs, during last week’s monthly meeting.

The unit is currently based in Co Roscommon, a county which local authority members believe “does not have a drugs problem to the same extent as Longford does”.

It was Cllr Tony Flaherty (FF) who proposed writing to Superintendent Denis Shields about the importance of relocating the drugs unit and to request the support of Longford Gardaí in relation to the matter. His proposal was subsequently supported by the remaining local authority members.
