Council chiefs may demolish two houses inside a Longford town housing estate after a dangerous structure notice was served on its owners.
Planning officials issued the warning to the owners of two properties in the Palace Crescent area over rising domestic waste levels that have built up outside both properties.
“A Dangerous Structure Notice has been served on the owners of 25 and 26 Palace Crescent,” a statement outlined.
“In the event that the owners do not make safe these properties and remove the large amount of rubbish that has accumulated, it is the intention of Longford Co Council to enter on to these properties and demolish both houses.”
Cathaoirleach Cllr Gerry Warnock said he hoped the move would provide the springboard to bringing about the regeneration of Longford town.
“It’s a signal of intent as to how we plan to proceed in similar instances, where property owners fail in their legal and moral obligation to keep their properties in a clean and safe condition,” he said.
“This is in keeping with the proposed objectives of our Regeneration Plan, part of which is to enhance the visual impact of our town and county for the benefit of providing a better place to live for people and for the promotion of local economic growth.”
