Gardai are not treating the discovery of a body on the outskirts of Newtowcashel yesterday (Wednesday) as suspicious.

The body, believed to be that of missing 59-year-old man Anthony Fagan, was recovered by members of the Lough Rea Sub Aqua Club at Forthill following a large scale search operation.

The body has since been removed to Mullingar General Hospital where a post mortem was due to be carried out today (Thursday).

Gardai have, for the moment, declined to release the identity of the dead man, but have ruled out the prospect of foul play being involved.
