Gortletteragh December 31

Congratulations to Ann Marie and Andrew Carleton, Drumhirk on the birth of their baby son, Luke, a little brother for Matthew. Luke just arrived in time to join in the celebration of another birthday - that of baby Jesus. Mother and baby are home and doing well, Buochas le Dia.

All lovers of Bluegrass music in Gortletteragh should come along to a concert in Clarke's Hotel, Mohill on Saturday night, 8th January, 2011 at 9 pm.

The organisers of this Bluegrass concert include local man Tommy Kelleher. It promises to be a lively affair with the popular Moyra Frazer and 'Bending the Strings' performing. This concert is a fundraiser to help defray the cost of a planned Bluegrass Festival for Mohill in mid August 2011. Admission is €10.

Christmas as normal was quite a busy time for our local parish priest, Rev John Quinn, having to celebrate seven masses in the two day period from Christmas Eve until Sunday evening. He will need a well deserved break.

I would like to wish all our readers and staff at the Longford a very happy New Year. Hope everyone had a good Christmas, especially those who were home on holiday.

We don't know what lies ahead in 2011 but we hope for the best.

Despite the terrible conditions on St Stephen's Day it was nice to see some Wren Boys/Girls braving the weather to continue this ancient tradition.
