Met Éireann has issued a weather warning for today, Friday, October 18.
The warning has come as a result of heavy rainfall throughout the day, with south and east Munster, east Ulster and parts of Leinster expected to see between 25 – 40mm of rain.
According to AA Roadwatch, heavy rain has already been affecting motorists, with an increase in minor collisions and breakdowns.
The AA encourage patience on the roads during spells of poor weather, as there will be more people on the road, and journeys will take longer.
Aoife Carragher, Head of AA Roadwatch explains that it is essential for drivers to be aware of the change in conditions. “Speed is unfortunately still the most common cause of collisions so motorists need to slow down and to increase braking distances” she says.
“It’s much darker out there so use your dipped headlights; this will improve visibility and it will make it easier for you to be seen by other vehicles, which is equally important.”
The weather is expected to remain much the same for the weekend, with rain forecast right through to Monday.
