Celebrating Carers’ week

Next week is Carers’ Week 2012 and to celebrate The Carers’ Association in this region has organised a number of events which will give recognition to Longford’s 1,381 family carers, the average age of which is 46. A Viking Ship cruise will take place on the River Shannon at Athlone on Sunday June 17 next. The cruise is followed by a lunch and a ‘sing-song’ with Paschal in the Prince of Wales Hotel, Athlone.

Meanwhile on Tuesday June 17 a Carers’ Health Fair will take place at the Longford Arms Hotel from 10am to 2pm. All aspects relating to family carers health and well-being will be covered at this event. Blood pressure, lung capacity, carbon monoxide levels and diabetes checks will be available, among others, as well as lots of interesting information.

On Thursday June 21 Mullingar Greyhound Stadium will be the venue for a night with the dogs. A night of fun and entertainment nincluding finger-food and great company. Meanwhile on Sunday June 24 a barbeque and music will be held in the lawns of Bloomfield House Hotel, just outside Mullingar.
