The discovery of over €10,000 worth of cannabis plants found in separate searches in Granard and Edgeworthstown are linked, gardai say.

Last Tuesday (June 21), officers from the Divisional Drugs Unit based in Roscommon seized an estimated €6,000 of cannabis plants from a house in Edgeworthstown’s Devine Crescent estate.

No arrests have yet been made, although gardai are said to be following a definite line of enquiry, with arrests likely to be made locally over the coming days.

Described as an “ongoing surveillance operation”, investigating gardai are linking the haul to a similar seizure made in Granard almost two weeks ago.

On that occasion, drugs officers recovered €4,500 of cannabis plants followed a planned search of a house in Granada Drive. A man has since been arrested and is presently helping gardai with their inquiries.

Meanwhile, gardai have also confirmed they are investigating a suspected sexual assault on a woman in Longford town.

The alleged incident took place in the St Michael’s Road area of town last Sunday week (June 19). A number of statements have already been taken and one man has been arrested as gardai continue to pursue what they have described as a “particular line of inquiry”.
