Detectives are following a definite line of inquiry into a stabbing incident in Newtownforbes at the weekend which left one man in hospital.
The victim was stabbed a number of times after a man and woman entered a house in the village at around 8:30pm on Saturday evening. It's understood both individuals gained access when the victim opened the door.
Gardai believe no physical altercation occurred at the doorway, but instead happened a short time later. The victim who is in his early 30s sustained a number of stab wounds and was susbsequently taken to the Midland Regional Hospital in Mullingar for treatment.
He was still under medical supervision on Monday night though his injuries were described as not life threatening, said a garda spokesman.
A number of other items were also taken from the house in the immediate aftermath of the incident it has been revealed.
