Active age: The Carrigallen & Drumeela Active Age will be holding their AGM on Monday night 14th February in the Health Centre Carrigallen at 8pm sharp.

Active age: The Carrigallen & Drumeela Active Age will be holding their AGM on Monday night 14th February in the Health Centre Carrigallen at 8pm sharp.

All members are requested to attend as this will be a really interesting evening as the group will look back on everything that went on in 2010 and elect members for 2011.

Tim Mulligan MRCVS

The death occurred of Tim Mulligan MRCVS Hillcrest Arva Co Cavan at Cavan General Hospital after a short illness on 16 January 2011. Tim was born in 1929 and he came from outside of Ballyhaunis Co Mayo. His father was William Mulligan who was an intelligence officer with IRA Roscommon brigade during the troubles after 1916. Tim qualified as a vet in 1953 and did numerous locums in Cavan and for Pat Gallagher Veterinary Surgery in Mohill Co Leitrim before he came to Arva in 1954 as a locum for two weeks for Paddy Power Veterinary Surgery. He remained in Arva for the rest of his life. He married the beautiful Carmel O'Regan from Cootehall Co Roscommon in 1956 and they had six children. She predeceased him in January 1985. As a vet he excelled at his work with farm animals and developed great expertise in the treatment of horses.. One of his specialities was his ability to treat horses with back trouble and he travelled far and wide to treat such cases. As a person Tim was full of humour and decency. He was very intelligent and was a great mathematician. He was kind to all and especially to those who were disadvantaged in any way. The stories of his life are legion and his memory will live on for many moons in the Carrigallen area and beyond. He loved the horses and the racing and in his time owned a few quite fast animals. Tim has left a great void in the hearts of his family and his friends. There will never be his like again. Funeral Mass was in Sacred Heart Church, Arva and burial was to Coronea Cemetery. Sympathy is extended to his family Bryan , The Manse Carrigallen, Barry Lyn David Valerie and Mark; brothers Joe England and Gerry Carrigallen; sister Sr Pia (Harry), Carrickmacross, sisters-in-law; brothers in law, daughter in law, son in law, grandchildren, nieces , nephews and his many friends. May he rest in peace. Mass will be celebrated for Tim in Saint Mary's Church Carrigallen this Sat Feb 12th.

Death of Mr Matt O'Brien

There is widespread regret in the Carrigallen parish and surrounding ones at the news of the death of Mr Matt O'Brien late of Corglass Carrigallen which has occurred in Manchester England . A well known sportsman a member of the famous Drumeela football teams before emigrating to Manchester. Funeral took place there RIP. Sympathy is extended to his brother John, sisters Mrs Sheila Lee Newtowngore, Mrs Vera Connolly, Moyne, Mrs Eileen Brennan Arva, The Lee family Drumeela/ and Carrigallen.
