He appealed to political parties not to erect posters around the chapel.

ST PATRICK'S GAA

held their monthly meeting on Friday night last with a good attendance. It was pointed out to the meeting that anyone parking cars inside the club grounds do so at their own risk and the football club are not liable for any damage caused. Our Tea m Manager Pauric Mulligan, Colmcille will have as his Selectors Enda Boylan and Bran Cully for the coming year and Cyril Sheridan and John Hamilton will be in charge of the second team and we wish them every success in their endeavours.

Presentation: The club will hold a function on Saturday 19th March in the Breffni Arms Hotel & Leisure Complex during which the Medals for the Junior "D" Championship will be presented. Also on the night a presentation will be made to recently married players and their wives and Coaching Certificates will also be presented. It should be a great night's craic and we look forward to a good attendance.

Membership: Anyone interested in becoming a member of Arva Football Club should pay their membership as soon as possible to Club Treasurers Cyril Sheridan or Michael Ellis. Membership closes on Monday 28th February

Arva Ladies Football Club training will start for all underage girls from age 6 upwards in St Patricks Hall on Monday week 21st February - come along and learn the basics of Gaelic football in a fun environment. A meeting for all members of Arva Ladies GFC will be held in the Breffni Arms Hotel & Leisure Complex on this Friday evening 11th February at 7 pm - everyone must attend.

SERVICES

Church of Ireland Services for the Arva Group of Parishes Sunday 6th February - Carrigallen and Columbkille at 10.00 am.

Arva and Gowna at 11.30am. On Friday of next week 18th February the GFS (Girls Friendly Society) will hold a Table Quiz in Breffni Arms Hotel and Leisure Complex at 8.00 pm in aid of World Council which will take place in Ireland this year.

BINGO

There was a great attendance in St Patrick's Hall, Arva on Sunday night last as Bingo returned following a six month season in Carrigallen. There was over €3,000 in prizes on offer with two panels worth €500 each. The committee were delighted to see so many familiar faces returning and they also welcomed many new patrons on the night. With the prize money that is on offer it is rightly seen as one of the best sessions in the region – Eye's down at 8.30 pm sharp.

BREFFNI KICKERS

Line Dancing classes continue in the Breffni Arms Hotel and Leisure Complex, Arva on Thursday night's with a good attendance. Classes for beginners at 8.30 pm and for the more advanced at 9.30 pm. New dancers always welcome so come along and enjoy the fun.

COMMUNITY ALERT

To date 26 monitored alarms have been installed in homes together with twenty two external security lights, also some locks and door chains have been fitted to doors. This programme has now ended but the Department have introduced a new scheme whereby monitored personal alarms, monitored smoke detector and monitored carbon monoxide detector can be installed, also external security light or internal emergency lighting is available. ACTIVE AGE

On Friday last the Arva Active Age recommenced their monthly Coffee Mornings in the Breffni Arms Hotel and Leisure Complex with a Guest Speaker – Mr Anthony Brady, Solicitor – who gave a short talk and answered many questions from the members.

ON TV

Everyone in the general area was tuned into the RTE on Saturday night last to watch Orla Brady, Main Street, Arva on the Winning Streak game show. Orla's name was selected the previous week as the Dream Maker contestant and she had to travel to Waterford to Spin the Wheel. There was delight all around when she won €25,000 and we congratulate her on her good fortune. Orla would like to thank everyone for their good wishes made through phone calls, cards etc.

SYMPATHY

Sympathy is extended to Mr John Donnelly, Main Street, Arva on the sudden death of his sister Mrs Mary Mc Grath which occurred at her residence in Queens, New York on Wednesday last 2nd January. Requiem Mass and Burial took place in New York.

COMMUNITY GAMES

St Mary's National School, Arva - Under 10's – Gold - Claire O'Connor, Silver - Aisling McManus,

Bronze - Kayla Brady. Under 12's- Silver - Leah Brady. Congratulations to all of the winners who qualified to take part in the County Final. Those who won Gold and Silver are eligible to compete in the County Finals to be held in Bailieboro Community School on Saturday 5th March 2011.

MEETING

The Arva Area Development Association will hold their monthly meeting on Monday night next 14th February at 8.30 pm in St Patrick's Hall – everyone welcome – "your voice your say".

CONGRATS

Congratulations are extended to Patrick and Samantha Smith, Drummora, Crossdoney on the birth of a baby girl. The happy event occurred recently at Cavan General Hospital. Samantha is a popular member of the staff in Lynch's Newsagents, main Street, Arva.
