An 18-year-old man has died following a car crash just outside Longford town in the early hours of last Sunday morning.

An 18-year-old man has died following a car crash just outside Longford town in the early hours of last Sunday morning.

The young man, named locally as Michael Warren of Castle Park, Newtownforbes, was a passenger in a car containing four other occupants which struck a roadside boundary while travelling along the Ferefad-Lisduff road at Ballymakeegan at 3.50am.

Mr Warren sustained serious injuries during the collision and was rushed to the Midlands Regional Hospital in Mullingar. He subsequently died on Monday evening. The other occupants of the vehicle were unharmed.

Gardaí investigating the accident have called for anyone who may have witnessed the accident to come forward.

“Witnesses to the collision are asked to contact Longford Garda Station on 043 3350570, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station,” a spokesperson said.
