Woman hurt in suspected hit and run

Gardai are investigating a hit-and-run traffic incident which occurred in Ballymahon last Monday evening.

A 79-year-old woman was struck as she attempted to cross the road at the town’s Main Street traffic lights shortly after 5pm.

ardaí have appealed to the driver of a white van, believed to have been involved in the incident, to make contact with them.

A Garda spokesperson reserved special praise to those motorists and passers-by who came to the woman’s aid.

Monday’s incident is the third road traffic accident to hit the county over the past seven days, following collisions in Kenagh and along the main N4 Longford-Edgeworthstown road earlier in the week.
