Vicky all set for Queen of the Land

Longford’s Vicky Twaddle will be among twenty-eight Queens, representing Macra na Feirme counties and regions throughout Ireland and overseas, competing for the prestigious FBD Queen of the Land title this weekend, Friday, November 7 to Sunday, November 9 in Tullamore.

As this year marks the Golden Jubilee of the festival, hosts Offaly Macra have invited the 49 previous winners back to celebrate and be part of the 50th milestone.

Over three event packed days, Vicky, a member of Longford Town Macra, will be appraised by a judging panel of Alan Geraghty (FBD Insurance), Geraldine Barrett (reigning FBD Queen of the Land 2013), former Macra President Alan Jagoe and guest judge 1989 Queen of the Land winner Anna Marie McHugh.

The judges will take into account appearance, personality, energy, confidence, dress sense and rural knowledge in selecting this year’s winner.

Employed as a clerical officer, Vicky’s hobbies include baking, walking and the cinema and she is looking forward to the festival which kicks off on Friday at 6.15pm with the arrival of the Queens in vintage cars into O’Connor Square with their princesses. The Festival will be officially opened by Mairead Lavery (Irish Country Living).

Friday night sees the 49 previous queens being honoured with the 50th Anniversary Gala banquet at 7:30pm followed by well -known country singer Declan Nerney on stage from 10pm, entry €15 at the door.

Saturday sees a variety of activities with tug of war, street entertainment and the Queens being introduced to their escorts in Hugh Lynch’s Bar in the afternoon.

The Queens will be put through their paces by MC Deric Hartigan (3e and RSVP Magazine) for the onstage interviews at 8pm in the Bridge House Hotel. Followed by music from Transmitter, Ruaile Buaile and Rock on Paddy, entry €15 at the door.

The weekend finishes up with the Gala Banquet at 7pm on Sunday, November 9 in the Bridge House Hotel. The announcement and crowning of the 2014 FBD Queen of the Land will take place at midnight. Music by Fiesta, tickets €35 from Bridge House Hotel.
