Willie Penrose says he “won’t bother his head” confronting Independent TDs Mick Wallace, Luke “Ming” Flanagan and Clare Daly in the Dail after they reproduced the Longford-Westmeath TDs year-old Bill and tabled it in their own names.
The Ballynacargy politician first tabled the Bill on wind turbines last November when acting as an Independent TD .
Now back in the Labour parliamentary fold after ending a two-year protest against the closure of Mullingar barracks, Mr Penrose has this morning (Thursday) launched a stinging attack against the Independent trio.
He said Roscommon South Leitrim TD Luke ‘Ming’ Flanagan wrote to him two weeks ago, informing him of plans to table the Bill in the Dail.
“As soon as I got it (letter) I replied promptly,” he told longfordleader.ie. “I gave him no authority to do that and for me it’s a new low in politics. In fact, it’s political opportunism of the highest order.”
Both Bills, as Mr Penrose intimated, appear almost identical with the only contrasts found in the titles and minor differences in how it was presented.
A hot topic of debate in the midlands region, Mr Penrose said he has been working closely on the wider wind turbines issue since 2009.
“I have made submissions to Westmeath Co Coucil and to An Bord Pleanala. Have they (Mr Flanagan, Mr Wallace and Ms Daly) done that? I am just flabbergasted by this type of behaviour,” he said.
