Gardai are trying to determine whether road conditions may have played a part in a fatal car crash in Kildare that claimed the life of a Co Cavan man on Sunday morning.

The man, from the Arva area, was killed when his Peugeot hatchback collided with a ditch before turning over into a dyke on the Clane to Kilcock Road, four miles outside Clane on Sunday morning.

The 35-year-old was only minutes away from reaching his intended destination when tragedy struck just before 9:30am.

The man, who was driving the car, was pronouned dead at the scene. Two other male passengers, believed to be a father and son, aged 49 and 25, were taken to Tallaght Hospital for non life threatening injuries.

The scene of the accident occurred at a bend along a secondary route that links Clane to Kilcoock. Road conditions at the time of the accident, according to sources, were wet as gardai this week continued with their investigation. Witnesses to the collision or anyone who may have been on the road around the time of the collision are asked to contact Kilcock Garda station on 01 6757390.
