This pilot project is currently running in Springlawn Community Childcare service and Tír na nÓg in Longford Town. Over a few weeks children, parents and childcare providers will be involved in:

Story Telling - Story telling is immediate and direct. It allows children to be fully involved with a story and encourages visualisation.

Scribing - Scribing is about helping children to create their own new stories by listening; asking questions, and recording the stories they tell. The finished stories can be used as books that children will enjoy listening to again and again.

Making the Best use of Books - The project will offer opportunities for selecting and sharing our own favourite books for the pre-school age group and developing “added value” materials and ideas with a view to creating a project pack that can be used in the future.

An introduction to Longford Library for adults and children and help and advice with choosing favourite books is also part of the project.

This project is an example of the local implementation of the National Strategy for Literacy and Numeracy.

It is facilitated by Chris Thompson with Longford County Childcare, Longford County Library, Rapid Programme and Poetry Ireland as Project Partners
