Rural Transport changes debated

Renewed calls to safeguard the present status of the county’s Rural Transport Scheme were made at last week’s meeting of Granard Town Council.

Renewed calls to safeguard the present status of the county’s Rural Transport Scheme were made at last week’s meeting of Granard Town Council.

Independent representative Eddie Kelly led the push as he urged government leaders to leave the system in its current format.

“It is a fantastic service,” he said. “How come they (government) are always cutting something that is working well?”

The council are now expected to issue letters, outlining their concerns, to Transport Minister Leo Varadkar and his deputy, Minister of State Alan Kelly.
