A Longford Town Councillor has been highly critical of the objection lodged against plans for the restoration of St Mel’s Cathedral.

At the October meeting of Longford Town council, members, in general, expressed their delight at the commencement of work on St Mel’s Cathedral.

Councillors were unanimous in their praise for all the work that had been to bring the project this far.

Speaking on the issue Cllr James Keogh said that he was pleased that the work on St Mel’s Cathedral had commenced.

He said that he was delighted that An Bord Pleanala had ignored “mischievous” objections and that the work was allowed to proceed.
