Leader Park cannabis find

A cannabis find worth approximately €2,500 was uncovered by Gardai following a search of a house at Leader Park, Longford. On Tuesday, July 24, the Divisional Drugs Unit entered the premises under the Misuse of Drugs Act and found a number of cannabis plants growing. A man was arrested and a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).

A cannabis find worth approximately €2,500 was uncovered by Gardai following a search of a house at Leader Park, Longford. On Tuesday, July 24, the Divisional Drugs Unit entered the premises under the Misuse of Drugs Act and found a number of cannabis plants growing. A man was arrested and a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).

In an unrelated incident, Ballymahon garage, Nally’s, was the focus of another Garda investigation following an attempted burglary at the premises on Wednesday, July 25, last. Between 12:55 and 3:35 that morning an attempt was made to break into the business via a side-door.

Gardai have confirmed that approximately €800 damage was caused to the business during the failed burglary. The culprits left the scene when the alarm was activated.

Nothing was taken from inside the premises, although the CCTV camera was removed by the culprits. Gardai are currently investigating footage on the hard-drive.

On Monday, July 23, two masked and gloved persons entered Stefano’s Fast Food on Main Street, Ballymahon, between 2:45 and 3:00 am. Entering through the rear window, they took the float from the till. Two other vending machines were broken and change was taken from them. CCTV footage is being reviewed.

Gardai are looking for information in relation to either of these burglaries.

In Longford town, a burglary took place at Templemichael Glebe, Ballinalee Road, on Thursday, July 26 between 17:00 and 19:50 hours. The injured party left the back-door open while out attending the garden. The culprit entered through the rear of the premises and took the injured party’s handbag, which held approximately €40 cash and bank cards. No arrests have been made.

Meanwhile in Newtownforbes, a car was parked in the drive-way of a house at Leitrim Cross between 2:30 and 3:00am. A rock was thrown at the window of the car, an Open Vectra (07). Nothing was taken from the car.

Windows were also smashed in Longford town on the morning of Thursday, July 26. Between midnight and 8:00 am a window at the District Veterinary Office, Ballinalee Road, was broken. Also, a premises at 11 Dublin Street, also had a window broken during the same time period. Gardai are currently investigating these incidents.
