Gardai in Cavan have launched an investigation after a Co Longford man was the victim of a serious assault during the early hours of Sunday morning.
The victim, who is in his twenties, was attacked outside a pub in the Main Street/Connolly St area at around 4am.
It’s believed the man suffered a serious wound to the neck and was later taken to Cavan General Hospital where he was treated for his injuries overnight.
Early indications appeared to suggest a weapon had been recovered, but a spokesperson ruled that out on Monday.
“No we haven’t (recovered a weapon),” said the spokesman. “It might have been a bottle but we are still working on that.”
It is understood the victim was discharged from hospital earlier this week. .
Forensic experts carried out a detailed examination of the scene on Sunday and the area was preserved for a period of time.
