Two men were caught by gardai this week hiding in the attic of a vacant house as they attempted to carry out a robbery in broad daylight.
The suspects who are aged 24 and 17, were found lurking in the loft area of the house at Longford town’s Glenn Riada estate at around 8am last Thursday morning.
Witnesses reported seeing two men acting suspiciously shortly beforehand outside the premises, causing gardai to immediately respond.
Upon arrival, officers noticed the front door of a house had been forced open and a copper cylinder pulled from the wall.
A search of the house initially threw up no visible trace of the culprits until quick-thinking gardai found the two men in the attic.
Both men were arrested, questioned and charged over the incident. They were later brought to a sitting of Mullingar District Court also last Thursday.
The 24 year old man was given bail to appear back before Longford District Court on June 28 while his 17 year old co-accused was remanded in custody. He came before Judge Seamus Hughes in Longford yesterday (Tuesday).
