County Manager Tim Caffrey looks set to stay on in his role as head of Longford County Council, last week’s meeting of the local authority heard.
Mr Caffrey, who has spent the last five years as the county’s most senior local authority official expressed his desire to stay on as county manager for another three years.
The Dublin civil servant said government legislation required county managers to submit an extension when approaching the end of a five year term in office.
“In accordance with the legislation I am required going into my sixth year to look for a three year extension which would bring me up to 2016,” he said.
Giving his thanks to elected members after receiving the unanimous backing of elected members, Mr Caffrey said: “It was a very easy decision for me to request this extension. In the last five years I have really enjoyed myself and I genuinely look forward to the next few years.”
