A Longford businessman who lost seven stone in less than six months has told of his delight at beating the bulge, adding that the dramatic turnaround has changed his life for the better.
Roy Davis, owner of Supervalu in Longford town weighed 23 stone almost 12 months ago. Fed up and anxious to get into shape, the father of three decided to call in a team of experts from Motivation Weight Management Clinic after seeing one of its successful clients on 'The Late Late Show'. Such has been the level of his success, that Roy was chosen to be the face of a new ad campaign for the Motivation Weight Clinic.
Accompanied by a work colleague also eager to lose weight, Roy signed up to the scheme, setting himself a target of 17 stone by the end of May.
"When I thought of it at first I didn't think I would get to it at all," he recalled earlier this week.
"I said to myself I might lose two or three stone and that would be it."
But thanks to a combination of strong willpower and small, yet timely changes in his everyday routine, Roy surpassed even his own modest expectations.
Talking openly about his dramatic weight loss, he said much of the turnaround came virtue of one underlying factor-not skipping breakfast.
"There were a few things like changes in diet and lifestyle. A lot of the time I was leaving huge gaps between meals, not eating in the morning but having a breakfast roll later in the day and then not eating until late at night."
Having to suddenly deal with seeing his new slimline figure splashed across television screens, he quietly conceded, was one feature which brought with it a whole different set of challenges.
"You could get embarrassed by it, of course especially as it is a huge amount of weight to lose," he confided. "But there were a few people who came up to me and said it gave them a lift seeing me on it."
