The HSE is giving advice on avoidance of spreading infection, emphasizing that the most important thing is to use tissues or handkerchief to cover the mouth if coughing or sneezing. It is advisable to stay away from Mass when people think they may have caught the flu. The risk of spreading infection by exchanging the sign of peace is not significant. However we are encouraged to pause and pray for a moment rather than exchange the sign of peace while present concerns last. Ministers of the Eucharist will continue to wash their hands before and after distributing Holy Communion.
