The Transition Year students at Moyne Community School have produced an innovative interactive study resource aimed at Junior Certificate Business Studies students.
Based on the concept of mindmaps, the entire JC Business Studies syllabus has been condensed into an interactive CD consisting of forty slides carefully packed with all the essential information.
"The TY students have been working busily since September undertaking market research, studying the syllabus and Chief Examiner's Reports in order to produce this educational resource to the highest possible standard of quality and reliability," TY Enterprise Teacher Padraig Doherty explained.
"In parallel with the Business Studies, the students are nearing completion of a similar disc for Junior Certificate Geography and have also managed to produce a range of professional quality wall charts covering key Irish and French vocabulary suitable for both Primary and Secondary schools.
All of this work has taken place under the guidance of Padraig Doherty and with the co-operation of Ms. Siobhan Doyle, Mrs. Loretto Gannon, Ms. Alison Sheridan, Ms. Natasha Kennedy and Ms. Catherine Rudden.
The product has been extensively tested on students throughout the school whose helpful suggestions have enabled the development of a product with nationwide potential.
Each mindmap is bright and colourful, easy to read and with the clever use of high quality clipart will appeal to those using it, help stimulate learning and foster a healthy interest in the subject.
Students can save the file on the desktop of their computer for ease of access and any business topic can be selected within two clicks of a mouse! The various mindmaps contain exam tips and references to the exam marking scheme - not presently available in any textbook.
Even before its launch, Folens Publishers have expressed an interest in the mindmaps and intend to put them to a variety of uses later in the year. It is believed that other possibilities also involving Folens are in the pipeline.
The Junior Certificate Business Studies Interactive CD ROM is on sale for €5.95 with €1 from each disc being donated to Longford Hospice Homecare. It can be obtained from Easons, Longford, Farrell-Coy, Longford and throughout Ireland from Longford based Demac Education or directly from Moyne Community School (049) 4335114 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
With the kind permission of Mr. Roy Davis, SuperValu, Longford the students will be operating a stand at the Hazelwood Shopping Centre on Saturday next January 22nd. The Mindmapperz JC Business Studies interactive CD ROM will be available to purchase on the day.
