Longford Town Mayor Cllr Christy Warnock will officially bow out of local politics this Friday night after almost three decades as a local politician.
The independent representative was first elected to Longford Town Council in 1979, going 15 years uninterrupted before losing out in 1994.
Cllr Warnock returned to the fold in impressive fashion just five years later, taking over 11 per cent of first preference votes.
Thirteen years later, Cllr Warnock is the current Longford Town Mayor but he has decided to retire once his tenure is up at the end of this month. His son Gerry is believed to be taking over his seat.
Speaking to the Leader this week, Cllr Warnock said he would not be making any comment or doing any interviews with the media until after this Friday’s annual general meeting of Longford Town Council.
