The countdown is well and truly on to the second annual Longford Colour Run, which takes place on Sunday, September 25.
Set to benefit Longford Mental Health Awareness, Temple Street Children’s Hospital and the Lakelands Area Retreat and Cancer Centre (LARCC), the event is organised by Longford Fitness in tandem with local woman Ciara Hoare, and it promises to be a fun day for all the family.
Offering some tips on how best to approach the colour run, Enda Gillen from Longford Fitness said;
“Come early and get registered. There’s going to be a DJ there and there’ll be facepainting as well for the kids.
“Listen to the safety instructions and adhere to the martials, stewards and guards,” he continued.
Encouraging participants to take part at their own pace, Enda added; “Don’t feel under pressure to run it all if you’ve never run one before. There’s no pressure to finish in a certain time. And wear runners that you’re comfortable in.”
He also pointed out that, to get the full effect of the paint, participants are advised to wear white t-shirts and can also opt to wear sunglasses and hats if they want to avoid contact with hair or eyes, though this isn't obligatory.
Finally, Enda recommended that, particularly if it’s a warm day, all participants make sure to stay hydrated throughout.
“Try and enjoy the day and soak up the atmosphere,” he smiled, before pointing out that there will be refreshments served back at the N4 Axis Centre following the event.
Tickets for the Longford Colour Run are currently on sale at Eventbrite.ie or from Longford Fitness. The action kicks off on the day with registration from 9.30am, and participants setting off at 11am.
