Longford parish parkrun a resounding success

The parishes of Longford were out in force on Saturday in The Mall for the inaugural parish parkrun.

Longford parkrun is a free 5km timed run which takes place every Saturday at 9.30am in The Mall (Albert Reynolds Peace Park) and the Parish parkrun was an initiative to get people from every area of Longford involved.

This week saw 128 participants take part for the pride of their parish, with every parish in the county represented.

Fifty-eight people took part for the first time with runners travelling from Leitrim and Roscommon to get involved.

Race director Kevin Kane was delighted with the turnout saying: “It was amazing to see so many walkers, runners, buggies, dogs and children taking part and many wearing their club colours.”

He added: “We had a great day, with 18 personal best times. There was a big crowd for breakfast afterwards which was very enjoyable.”

Kevin extended thanks to all the volunteers and  participants for coming.

“Everyone said they enjoyed it and we're all looking forward to this Saturday's run already,” he continued, before  encouraging everyone to come along this Saturday at 9.30am to walk or run the 5km route.
