Closing date looms for Longford Tidy Towns garden contest

BY Rachel Masterson

Green fingered enthusiasts have one last opportunity to show off their gardening skills, as entry to the Longford Tidy Towns Garden Competition closes this week.

As blossoming gardens around the town help make Longford a brighter place to live, Longford Tidy Towns want to recognise the owners for their hard work and upkeep.

Willie Quinn is treasurer of Longford Tidy Towns, he said the competition “adds to the sense of community pride in the area” and it encourages others to maintain their gardens.

Local gardeners are being urged to enter, with prizes up for grabs. “There will be an awards night, with a special prize giving for the winners”, continued Willie, “the focus is on the Longford town area, anyone in the town can enter”.

The garden competition has grown to great heights in recent years, with keen gardeners eager to showcase their pride and joy.

The 2015 garden competition winners were Mrs Cox in Ardnacassa Lawns in the front garden category, the back garden winner was Mrs Buckley in Oaklands, the containerised garden prize went to Mrs Dowler in Teffia Park and the front and side garden winner was Joe McDonagh in Abbeycarton Lane.
