€10,000 has been allocated in funding for the development of a state of the art playground and obstacle course at Derrycasson Woods in Mullinalaghta.
Acting CEO, Barbara Heslin told last week's meeting of Longford County Council that the funding has been approved by the Department of Children and Youth Affairs and the project is expected to get underway in the coming months.
It is anticipated at this early stage that the obstacle course will include climbing walls, tunnels and balancing beams while the playground will appeal to small children and teeangers alike.
“This is great news - what a lovely place Derrycasson Woods is,” a delighted Cllr John Duffy (FG) announced.
“This is really going to enhance the area; this is just the start.”
Meanwhile Cllr PJ Reilly (FF) believed the initiative would certainly serve to enhance what he described as “a most beautiful place”.
“Derrycasson is a wonderful wood,” he remarked.
“It’s a hidden gem with all its beautiful walkways and trees.
