The Maria Edgeworth Literary Festival 2016 will take place on Saturday, May 14.
This year’s programme includes children’s story-telling with Eamon Brennan at 10.30am in The Rectory and the presentation of the The Deirdre Purcell Perpetual Cup and prizes for the children’s poetry competition by poet Mary Melvin Geoghegan.
The historical walk from St Mary’s to St Johns takes place at 2pm with Tour Guide Matt Farrell starting from St. Mary’s Church followed by light refreshments in the Rectory.
At 4.30pm, Professor Claire Connolly will give a lecture at St John’s Church.
Dr Phillip Brady will MC proceedings in St John’s Church from 8pm where Dr Ciaran Reilly will give a lecture on 'Maria Edgeworth, The Famine and Co Longford'. There will be a musical interlude by the O’Reilly family.
Acclaimed author Belinda McKeon will read and talk about the topic 'Imagined and familiar; the home place in fiction, with musical interlude by Denise Fulham and a musical finale with O’Reilly family.
