Ploughing workshop in Carrickedmond

The annual ploughing workshop for young Longford farmers will take place on the farm of John and Maura Harte, Carrickedmond, this Saturday afternoon March 19, from 12.30pm.

For over thirty years members of the County Longford Ploughing team have kindly shared their knowledge of the art of ploughing and shared their machinery at this event.

In a brand new development this year, the NPA are introducing a Novice Class at the national event in Tullamore next September. The prize is a €1,500 voucher towards purchase of a plough.

It means that someone at Saturday’s novice ploughing will get the opportunity to compete in Europe's largest outdoor event; The National Ploughing Championships.

So don't miss this chance of winning free access to the National Ploughing and maybe a new plough. Contact any member of Longford Ploughing, secretary Tom Bannon (087 9691176) or check Facebook for more details.

Meanwhile, preparations continue for the Longford Ploughing Championships, sponsored by Billy Moran & Sons, which takes place on Sunday, April 10. Returning to the same site as last year, within walking distance of Legan village, the event is being staged by Pauraic Dalton and Frank Lyons.

The launch night is on Wednesday, March 23 in The Rustic Inn, Abbeyshrule at 8pm, where the first ever novice match, held near the canal in Abbeyshrule on Sunday, March 22, 1986 will also be recalled. All are welcome.
