Longford's All-Ireland odyssey ended by Cork

Longford's All-Ireland odyssey ended by Cork

Watched by the official attendance of 3,567 who made their way to sunny Glennon Brothers Pearse Park on Saturday last,  Longford’s great run in the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship Qualifiers came to an end when they were beaten 2-9 to 1-6 by Cork in the Round 3B clash.

On a high after the magnificent win over Monaghan in Clones the previous week, Denis Connerton’s side were hoping to make the most of home advantage on this occasion and another shock win over Division 1 opposition looked on when they led by four points at the break, 1-4 to 0-3.

But Cork stepped up another couple of gears on the changeover as Longford faded out of the game and were restricted to just two more points as the rebels ran out comfortable winners.
