A free from Francis McGee with the final kick of the game earned Dromard a deserved draw against Killoe in the All County Football League Division 1 game at Emmet Park on Saturday evening last.

Dromard were on top for most of the game but when Darragh Bennett slotted home a penalty in the 48th minute the game swung in Emmet Og’s favour - only for Dromard to battle back to claim a share of the spoils.

Killoe’s Mark Hughes and Dromard’s Francie McGee were the main men for their sides, hitting over some good scores. Ronan McEntire and Michael Quinn also impressed in the midfield tussle.

A free from Hughes in the 3rd minute was the game’s opening score. Six minutes later, Dromard registered their first point with McGee pointing. Cian Mimnagh put them ahead one minute later with a nice point before McGee fired over his second score of the game.

A lovely point from Mark Hughes cut the gap to just one point in the 16th minute before Dromard enjoyed a dominant spell. A good point from Francis McGee restored their two point advantage in the 17th minute and three minutes later Cillian Burns pulled off a good save to deny Gary Maguire a goal for Dromard.

McGee put three between the sides in the 22nd minute after some neat build-up play. But Emmet Og were back in the game by the 28th minute with good points from play from Paddy Kiernan and Mark Hughes and also a pointed free from Hughes.

Dromard were three up again going in at the break after a good spell. A great Ronan McEntire point edged them back in front before Cian Mimnagh and Francis McGee scores gave them a 0-8 to 0-5 half-time lead.

Two points from Mark Hughes (one free) in the early stages of the second half brought Emmet Og to within one of Dromard. Ronan McEntire replied with another fine point before Hughes was on target again for Killoe in the 36th minute, pointing a free.

Ross McNerney replied for Dromard but with Mark Hughes a real menace in attack, Emmet Og had a goal threat and it was Hughes who earned his side a penalty in the 48th minute after he was fouled in the area. Darragh Bennett stepped up and dispatched the penalty to the net to give his side a one point lead, 1-8 to 0-10.

John Sheridan levelled for Dromard in the 50th minute and a Jamsie Martin free two minutes later put Enda Macken’s side in front again.

The game was all square again in the 55th minute when Daniel Mimnagh pointed and three minutes later Emmet Og went ahead after referee Michael O’Brien rightly used the advantage rule after Michael Quinn had been fouled. Mark Hughes stepped up to fire over the free.

With time running out, Dromard were awarded a free which Francis McGee fired over the bar to earn his side a draw.
