Moyne Community School failed to get the better of O’Carolan College Nobber in their first round opener of the Leinster Senior ‘B’ championship at Breffni Park Cavan on Thursday of last week.
Despite getting off to a decent start in the opening fifteen minutes, the north Longford School could not cope with the strength and depth of their Meath counterparts.
Once O’Carolan College took the lead in the 10th minute, they remained in control and never relinquished that advantage up to the final whistle.
A number of players from Moyne’s starting fifteen had lined out for the school rugby team the day before this contest and as the game progressed, it was clear to see the effects of that gruelling battle.
Nevertheless Moyne endeavoured to solider on and points from Fergal Sheridan, Conor Hawkins and Cian Bannon narrowed the margin close to the half time break.
Unfortunately for Moyne, the Nobber School refused to take their foot off the gas in the closing minutes of the half and they bagged their second goal in the 27th minute after a brilliant strike from Ross Blaney.
On the restart, O’Carolan’s continued to dominate and three early points put them in pole position.
Moyne’s enjoyed their best spell of football in the game during the remaining 12 minutes and a converted a penalty from Cian Bannon and points from Martin Cassidy and Bryan McCormack bridged the gap back somewhat.
