The landslide margin of 30 points separated the sides at the final whistle as Dromard destroyed Killashee in Round 1 of the Senior Football Championship in front of a sparse attendance at Keenan Park in Ardagh on Sunday last.

Apart from boosting their scores difference in the group stages of the Connolly Cup, this mis-match proved to be nothing more than target practise for the rampant north Longford side with full-forward Francis McGee clocking up 1-8 (four frees) in the demolition job.
Poor St. Brigid’s were outclassed in almost every position, although they did squander some scoring chances in the first half with Mark Rossiter shooting wide in a goal attempt.

When James Willis was off target from point-blank range in the 48th minute, it looked as though Killashee were going to end up scoreless but that embarassment was avoided when Francis Dolan fired over a free with four minutes of the game remaining.

While St. Brigid’s are doomed for the drop into the Intermediate Championship next year, Dromard are looking good to make further progress into the knock-out stages and were very slick in attack with chief marksman McGee, Cian Mimnagh (0-6) and Ross McNerney (0-3) inflicting most of the damage.

Minus the services of injured duo Declan Mimnagh and Bernard Sheridan with Kevin Donohoe away on holidays, Dromard had built up a very commanding 1-12 to 0-0 lead at the break and added another 2-10 to their tally in the second half - the goals coming from Francis McGee and substitute Donie Conefrey.
