A total of 1-7 without reply in a glorious 12 minutes dominant spell in the first half set Dromard on their way to a comfortable win over Granard in Round 2 of the Senior Football Championship at Allen Park in Newtownforbes on Saturday evening last.

The game was virtually over as a contest at the break as Ciaran Fox’s charges went in 10 points in front, 1-10 to 0-3, and St. Mary’s were unable to get back into the game in the second half

Dromard played very well but Granard made a lot of mistakes in the first half which Dromard duly punished. St. Mary’s opened the scoring in the 4th minute with a free from Stephen Lynch but Dromard responded with points from Ronan McEntire and Cian Mimnagh.

Jamsie Martin (free) and another McEntire point put four between them by the 14th minute before Cian Mimnagh scored the only goal of the game with a fantastic finish. Martin (free) and a lovely point from Francis McGee extended Dromard’s lead to nine points by the 17th minute.

Granard tried to hit back and Bernard Clyne registered their second point. Minutes later Dromard keeper Damien Sheridan produced a good save to deny Liam Sullivan a goal and the danger was cleared.

Dromard replied with two points from Francis McGee (one free) before Ian Small got Granard’s third point in the 29th minute and then came another McGee score. In the second half Granard closed the gap with points from Derek Sheridan and Stephen Lynch but Dromard replied with two more scores. Three Derek Sheridan frees cut the deficit to eight by the 52nd minute but that was it for Granard. The final score came in the 54th minute when Jamsie Martin fired over a free.
