Clonguish got the better of Dromard in Round 3 of the Senior Football Championship at the Monaduff grounds, Drumlish on Saturday evening last in a game that was marked by some fine scores.

However Dromard’s wastefulness in front of the posts, which saw them kicking 15 wides, had a significant influence on the eventual outcome. The Clonguish midfield engine room of David Barden and David Faughnan did a lot of the ground work for the win while the quality of the Cian Mimnagh scores (1-3) for Dromard were excellent.

The victory for Clonguish was in no small part down to the half-forward-line of Paul Barden, Kevin Burke and Paddy Dowd, while one of the main talking points was when Clonguish goalkeeper Stephen Waters was sent-off with six minutes of the game remaining.

Dromard got the first score from Emmet Masterson but 15 minutes would elapse before the scoreboard ticked again with a Clonguish point from corner-back Brendan Devine.

Clonguish then knocked over two without reply from Paddy Dowd (free) and Ciaran Williams before Cian Mimnagh sandwiched a David Barden point with two great scores.

David Barden added another and Stephen McLoughlin was also on target before Francis McGee closed the gap to two at the break, 0-6 to 0-4. and Dromard hit the front immediately upon the restart with a goal from Cian Mimnagh.

It looked like the North Longford men had come up with a game changer. A move involving Emmet Masterson and Ronan McEntire was finished by Mimnagh who rattled the net.

But the Clonguish reply was swift and decisive with Paul Barden scoring 1-2 to put his side on the road to victory and the final quarter of the game yielded just a point apiece from Cian Mimnagh and Paddy Dowd (free).
