While Mostrim won by the emphatic margin of 12 points in the finish, Killashee deserve a lot of credit for producing a spirited display in the second half of the Senior Football Championship Round 3 clash at the Young Grattans GFC grounds, Dunbeggan on Sunday last.

In booking their place in the quarter-finals, Edgeworthstown had the game all wrapped up at half-time at which stage they had built up a commanding 1-10 to 0-0 lead with Barry Noonan firing home the goal in the 18th minute after receiving the perfect pass from Martin Coyle.

Cillian Lynn (free) got the opening score in the first minute while the other points came from Brian Farrell (3), Gerard Smith, Lynn (3 frees) and David Morgan (2).

The crossbar came to St. Brigid’s rescue immediately on the changeover when Morgan somehow failed to hit the target with the goals at his mercy and the action quickly switched to the other end of the pitch with Ogie Campbell finding the back of the net from point-blank range.

Mostrim recovered quickly with three points in a row through Brian Farrell, Barry Noonan and Fintan Coyle but they conceded a second goal in the 38th minute with Enda McKiernan getting the vital touch to a centre from Mark Rossiter.

That particular score gave Killashee a great lift and with the advantage of the stiff breeze in the second half the underdogs ended up outscoring the opposition 2-3 to 1-5 with substitute Francis Dolan landing a brace of points (free and play).

Enda McKiernan also shot over the bar for the gallant losers while Cillian Lynn scored the second goal for Mostrim, who were guilty of squandering a lot of chances in the closing stages of the game.
