BALLYMAHON: Leo Casey Park staged the first round O’Byrne Cup match Longford v Meath on Sunday last where a large crowd turned up and Meath won on a 1-9 to 1-7 scoreline. The two teams were very experimental as happens at this time of year. Our own clubman Kevin Diffley featured at centre-half-back and acquitted himself well. Many thanks to all who acted as stewards and did a very good job.
Many thanks to the players who sold lotto tickets. Many thanks to the Mart who allowed us use of their parking facilities which was greatly needed and much appreciated. Our weekly lotto draw will resume next Sunday night in Murrays Lounge, the first in 2013. Apologies that it did not take place on Sunday last. Membership fee 20 euro ordinary and 10 euro students now due and is available on or before 31-3-2013. Very important that players take this out as it is your responsibility and not the club’s onus. There will be no guarantee you will be covered in the event of an accident so why take the chance for only a few euro. As for ordinary membership we invite all to be part of it. Many thanks to those who carried out the repairs and improvements of late and with the near completion of the St Christopher’s Day Care facilities the park and surrounds were looking very well on Sunday last. A few of the younger players have not shown up as yet at training and so I appeal to them to come along soon as bigger numbers make training more enjoyable for all.

FORGNEY ST. MUNIS: There was a very good turn out at our A.G.M. held in Forgney School on Sunday week last. Chairman Pat O’Toole in his address said that 2012 had been one of the most difficult years the club had faced with the twin scourges of emigration and long term injuries taking their toll on playing numbers that threatened the very existence of the club particularly around championship time last year. Pat paid a special tribute to former Club President Larry McLoughlin who passed away in the early part of the year. Larry had been a founder member of the club and had served in many committee roles down through the years. Johnny Maye was elected as the new club President in succession to Larry. Secretary Seamus Finlass presented a very comprehensive report to the meeting, with Treasurer Eamon Reilly presenting a detailed set of accounts. Both Seamus and Eamon commented on the very good turn out for the AGM and hoped that it was a good omen for the year ahead and the Treasurer also stated that a much better effort would have go into our fund raising efforts if we are to meet our financial obligations in the years ahead. Before the meeting concluded the Chairman conveyed the clubs sympathy to those in the club and parish who had suffered bereavements during the course of the year, thanked the Longford Leader for their coverage of club affairs and wished everyone a happy and sporting 2013.Club Officers 2013: President Johnny Maye. LONGFORD LADIES GAA NEWS: May I wish everyone a very happy and holy 2013 especially all our clubs, our players and our supporters. Our Intermediate county team are getting back to training for their upcoming League campaign but the unavailability of pitches is causing some problems. It is hoped, in co-operation with the GAA, to get one base with lights for them shortly. The weather is having an adverse effect on pitches also so we do understand there is little anyone can do at present. Our U-14 and U-16 county trials are on on Saturday next in Shroid. The U-14 trial commences at 9.30am and the U-16 trial at 11.45am. All club secretaries have been notified but girls please feel free to come to these trials as competition commences in February. Training for the Longford Ladies Minor panel will commence on Sunday the 13th of January, details of venue and time will follow by text. Well done to the Senior Ladies who held a successful Race Night in MBCoy in December and also thank you to everyone who supported our bag pack in Dunnes Stores over the festive period. Clubs are at present holding their AGM’s so we are asking the clubs to decide what competitions they are taking part in in order for the Fixtures Committee to compile the 2013 Fixture List. There is a entrance fee on each of these competitions. Each club will be having an U-12 Blitz and possibly an U-8 & U-10 blitz so if there is any date or event in your area that your club would like to host the blitz it would also be very helpful to know. The new Ladies County Board PRO, Pamela Coy, firstname.lastname@example.org will accept all information in from clubs for publication and the clubs are asked to contribute. The Fixture Committee Secretary will also advise on the fixtures and results will be published. In order for all to work in harmony please ensure your required information is available to Pamela on Sunday night prior to publication.
