It is very much the luck of the draw in the new Senior Football Championship format and a total of 12 clubs will compete for the Connolly Cup.

There is an Open Draw for 4 separate rounds and the Open Draw for Round 2 cannot be made until the first round games are played this weekend and so on.

And when this section of the championship (4 rounds of fixtures) is eventually complete, the teams filling the top eight places in the league table will qualify for the quarter-finals.

In the event of teams finishing on the same number of points in the league table, scores difference will apply to determine the final positions or the head-to-head result if required.

The quarter-finals draw will then work out as follows:

(A): Team 1 v Team 8

(B): Team 2 v Team 7

(C): Team 3 v Team 6

(D): Team 4 v Team 5

Semi-Finals

Winner QF A v Winner QF D

Winner QF B v Winner QF C

The bottom four teams in the league table will end up in the relegation play-offs and the draw will work out as follows:

Team 9 v Team 12

Team 10 v Team 11

The losers of these two games will then meet in the relegation final, the loser of which will be relegated to the 2013 Intermediate Championship.

All of which means that a total of 34 games will be played in the 2012 Senior Championship and each of the 12 clubs are guaranteed at least five games.

The 2012 County Senior Football Championship Final will be played on the last Sunday (30th) in September.
