Allianz National Football League Division 3 – Round 4
Longford . . . . . . . 1-16 Sligo . . . . . . . 1–8
From the moment Paul Barden fired home a wonderful goal in the 16th minute of the first half the force was firmly with a confident Longford side who strolled to a most emphatic win over Sligo at Markievicz Park on Sunday and are now in pole position for promotion in Division 3 of the National Football League.
Antrim, who lost their unbeaten record when slipping up against Roscommon, are the visitors to Glennon Brothers Pearse Park on Sunday next and should Longford manage to emerge victorious in this crucial clash then the prospect of Division 2 football next season will almost certainly materialise.
Sean McCormack inflicted most of the damage against Sligo with the tremendous total of ten points (seven frees) to his credit while the also impressive Brian Kavanagh (0-3) and Paul Barden (1-1) provided a constant threat in the slick and sharp Longford attack who made it extremely difficult for the under pressure Sligo defence who had full-back Johnny Martyn sent-off in the 52nd minute.
