Carrick Sarsfields U-14 team produced a fine achievement at this year’s National Feile 2014 in Connacht recently. The team surpassed all expectations and reached the Division 7 Shield Final playing some tremendous football over the weekend. The players did themselves, their parents and our club proud throughout the weekend, coming back from some early narrow defeats on Friday, they improved with every game and played some outstanding football during their games on Saturday, the quarter-final and semi-final.
Unfortunately, they met a very strong Carrickmacross team in the final and the better team won on the day. The team played 6 games over the weekend across 4 different venues against opposition from Sligo, Fermanagh and Monaghan and had fantastic support from our travelling supporters throughout. A big thanks to our host club in Sligo Town, Calry St Joseph’s for their fantastic hospitality and for taking great care of our players and coaches over the weekend. The players received a surprise welcome home from all their supporters who had lined the streets to greet them on their return and show their appreciation of their great work and achievement. Thanks to all who organised and took part in the welcome home party and to Eddie McGoey at the Rustic Inn for providing a meal to the players and coaches. A special word of thanks to our Feile sub-committee for their great work over recent months, to the parents and all our supporters for their attendance at our Table Quiz fundraiser, to the team coaches for their great work and encouragement of the players and most importantly to our 15 heroes who gave us all a tremendous Feile adventure that will live long in the memory.
