Longford retained the Ladies Leinster Intermediate Football Championship title with an 11 point win over London in the final at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park on Saturday.

But London didn’t let Longford have it their own way and in the first half especially they really put it up to the firm favourites; scoring a goal and creating a few other goal chances.

In the 10th minute Sharon Treacy scored a neat goal and in first half stoppage time Longford stretched their lead to 6 points (2-6 to 1-3) when Michelle Farrell converted a penalty after Elizabeth Brady was fouled.

The first score of the second half didn’t come until the 43rd minute through Longford defender Louise Monaghan and then Claire Greene got a point.

After going 31 minutes without a score London got a point in the 48th minute through Hannah Noonan but Longford finished strongly with points from Claire Greene (2), Michelle Noonan (free), Michelle Farrell along with a goal from Orla Noonan and can now look forward to the All-Ireland quarter-final.
