MINOR-CLONGUISH OG: Clonguish U-16s began their season in Leinster club League on Saturday with a hard fought win over Ná Séamroga from Offaly. The game was a very close encounter with nothing between the teams going into the last quarter when a goal from Andrew Allen finally put some daylight between the two teams. Both teams were guilty of some poor finishing in a low scoring first half. Liam Casey and Ciaran O’Boyle were in excellent form in the Clonguish back line. In the forwards James McLoughlin and Ciaran Madden won a lot of the fifty fifty balls but we could not convert the possession into scores. In the second half Eoin Corcoran was dominant at full-back and Peter Hanley began to take control at midfield. Clonguish eventually began to edge in front as the half wore on and strong performances from Neil Devlin, Colin Clarke and Colin Farrell helped seal the win. We would like to thank our visitors Ná Séamroga from Offaly for a very sporting encounter. Our next game in this competition is against St Paul’s, The Rock from Laois next Saturday. Clonguish Óg are holding a Registration Night on Friday 8th March from 8pm - 9pm in the Ralph Room. We could have snatched a win but missed opportunities cost us the game. The team was as follows: Mattie McGrann, Owen Higgins, Mark Tully, Mark Connell, John Brady, Liam Sullivan, Andrea Bogdan, Shane McNamara, Conor Mallon, Dylan Shields, Mattie Gorman, Conor Monaghan, Warren Keegan, Gary Carroll, Johnny English. The subs on the day was Alex Slevin, Ryan Keville, Conor Mulligan, Keelan Murphy and Finbar Murphy while Ciaran mallon and Finbar Moran were injured. This Saturday our U-14’s take the field in the Feile competition in Higginstown, Granard at 12 noon. MINOR-WOLFE TONES: Our minor team started their 2013 season off last Sunday morning with a home game against Carrick Sarsfields. Last year we struggled for numbers at this age group (despite winning a league title) and this year we have the same problem. Most of our team is made up of U-16 players. All games are going to be tough with such a young team. Our first game ended with a three point defeat against a good Carrick Sarsfields team who were able to field with a couple of County minor players. There was a very positive mode in the dressing room afterwards because Wolfe Tones were outstanding and could have won the game if a little luck came our way. Team: J. Hussey, K. Garry, T. Doyle, S. Reynolds, J. Mulhern, J. Gaffney, C. Victory, A. Sheridan, L. Kelly, D, Connell and S. Noonan. Subs used S. Brady. The 2013 Feile starts this Saturday and Wolfe Tones have home advantage in this competition. Team Manager Tony Garvey is very optimistic about this year’s team. There are very good numbers turning out for training and a lot of work is being put into training.
