It was the start Longford manager Glenn Ryan wanted; a good performance and a win against Offaly in the opening game of their Division 3 campaign.
Speaking to the Leader after the game Ryan was delighted with the win and the attitude of his players. “It’s a good start for us. It’s exactly what we needed and what we wanted. There are a lot tougher days ahead but we needed to knuckle down. We know Offaly are always a tough proposition. I think it was only for the attitude of the lads we were able to come through.”
Longford were guilty of some wayward shooting in the first half; kicking five wides in a row. Ryan admitted that they’ve been working on improving their accuracy in front of the posts as well as being patient when chances were missed. “One thing we were working on this year is to be clinical when we are on top in games and get scores when they come about. We weren’t clinical in terms of the wides we had in the first half but we knew it was important to be patient and the chances would come our way.”
