MOSTRIM: We played our first Reserve League game of the 2013 on Saturday last against Dromard and despite being a point down at half-time we kept Dromard scoreless in the second half and went on to win by 2-7 to 0-5. 
Our next game is a home game against Fr. Manning Gaels on Monday March 18th, check fixtures for any late changes. Our annual Dinner Dance is on Friday night in the Rustic Inn with music by Aisling and the Dance On Band. Tommy Gallagher will run a bus if there is enough demand. RATHCLINE: Congratulations to our Intermediate League team on a successful start to the Reserve League 2 campaign. Rathcline’s first outing in the competition began on Saturday evening last with a home game to St. Mary’s Granard. Final Score: Rathcline 2-10, St. Mary’s 0-11. Thanks to all the players who made themselves available for selection and we hope we can maintain such numbers for the rest of the campaign. Another tough challenge awaits this team this weekend coming when we travel to St. Columba’s - Mullinalaghta on Bank Holiday Monday 18th March at 2:30pm. We hope that there will be a good travelling support for the team. Club membership – We are down to the last two weeks for the submission of Club membership for 2013. Prices are as follows: 20 euro for non-playing members and 50 euro for players. Peter Skelly will be accepting payment for all non-playing members and Ryan Fallon will be doing likewise with our Club players. Club Rathcline Lotto Draw: The Jackpot total of 1,600 euro was not won this weekend with numbers drawn as follows: 2, 3, 20, 29, 39, and 43. Next week’s Jackpot will 1,700 euro. Croagh Patrick Sponsorship Walk 2013: This year’s event has been provisionally set for Saturday 11th May. This event is more than just a fundraiser for the club but a social outing for our members, friends and parishioners with a night out in Westport town. Based on previous year’s outings to Croagh Patrick, the club has experienced an enjoyable and rewarding day out with lots of crack in the process. Sponsorship cards are now available from any member of the club. We are looking for a big uptake from the parish and to make it a weekend to remember. Commiserations to the Longford Minor panel and the Rathcline contingent (Gareth, Shane and Eoin) after losing to Galway in the Connacht League in Pearse Park on Sunday last. Longford GAA are hosting the 11th Annual Race Day at Punchestown on ‘Gold Cup Day’ Wednesday 24th April. Rathcline GAA has always held the best Club representation at the event and this year we are looking to repeat this feat especially with club man Brendan Gilmore holding the chairman’s position in the County Board. The subsidised ticket price of 100 euro includes the following: Location at the Final Fence, Four Course Meal, Hot Afternoon Refreshments, Admission to the Races, Race Card, Celebrity Tipsters, Bar Facilities & Bookies in Pavilion; all of which represents fantastic value for money. Congratulations to the Longford Under 21 team on a fantastic victory over Dublin in the quarter-final of the Leinster Championship. The team now proceed to meet Wexford in Portlaoise on Wednesday 20th March. Shannon Gaels/Western Gaels: Hard luck to our Under 14 team who took part in the Feile Shield Competition on Saturday last in Higginstown, Granard. The team played two matches on the day; drawing the first game to St. Francis but we were beaten in the second game by a strong amalgamation of Granard/Ballymore. Shannon Gaels Minor Executive is encouraging anyone with spare time on their hands to get involved with helping out in our underage setup. A lot of work goes into training and preparing teams at all the different age groups. New faces would be most welcome.

MOYDOW HARPERS: This week’s winning Lotto numbers were 8, 9, 14, 23. There was no jackpot winner. Match 3 winners were John McDermott, Paul Hewitt, Brenda Quinn and Martina and Vinny. Next week’s jackpot is 7,800 euro. Hard luck to the Harpers who were beaten by 0-11 to 0-7 against Carrickedmond in the opening Reserve League 2 fixture on Saturday last. Despite points from Frank Doyle (0-3), Mark Quinn (0-1), Cathal Hillard (0-1) and Sean Farrell (0-2) Moydow were edged out in a close encounter. Training continues this week on Wednesday and Friday at 8pm.

YOUNG GRATTANS: The official date of the redeveloped ground at Dunbeggan Park has been set for Sunday 12th of May and on the day Longford will play a challenge match against a County team to be confirmed. As part of the opening a booklet is being produced to mark the event and we are looking for any old Grattans photos If you have any and you would like them included in the booklet you can give them to any committee member, or the editor Kevin Victory. More details about various event surrounding the opening later. There is a committee meeting this Wednesday March 13th at 7pm and all members are asked to attend. There was no winner of last weekend Lotto draw, the winning numbers were 7, 14, 18, 29. The following each receive 20 euro: Marion Kane, Damian McDermott and Caroline Oates. Next week’s jackpot stands at 3200 euro. The first competitive game this year ended with a victory for Grattans in the Reserve league when they defeated Dromard in Dromard. Well done to Karl Murray and the County 21’s on their recent victory over Dublin. Training continues during the week and all players are asked to attend. A correction to last weeks notes, the two Grattans girls selected for the County U-14 panel are Eve Nerney and Pethrina Carrigy, well done to both girls. A reminder to all players who have yet to pay their club membership, Kevin is collecting membership during the week and this year’s fee remains at 30 euro.

MINOR-GRANARD: On Saturday last our u-14 team took part in the feile competition in Higginstown, Granard. We played two games in the competition against St. Francis of Dromard and Western Gaels. We beat western Gaels 6-10 to 3-03 and beat St. Francis 4-10 to 2-02 as we progressed into the next round of the competition. Well done to the players and management. Our Minor team will take the field in the special minor league division 2 on bank holiday Monday (18th march) at 2:30pm in Higginstown, Granard. If here is any change it will appear on St. Mary’s, Granard facebook page. On Friday the 15th of March St. Mary’s Granard will launch the history book which will be going back 125 years of the club’ s wonderful history and starts at 8pm in our clubhouse. There will be past and present players there so you can ask them questions about their playing days. We would like to see you all there for a good night.

MINOR-GRATTAN GAELS: The first training session for Under 6’s was hosted last Tuesday evening week with a very strong attendance of young boys and girls. The U-6’s training will again be hosted each Tuesday until the evening gets longer in Newtownforbes Sports hall at 6.30pm and all are very welcome. It has been arranged that Under 8’s and older age groups will have formalised training starting at the club grounds on Monday the 8th April at 6.30pm. The Grattan’s club is still busy working on having its official opening of its renovated facilities during the month of May, and further details of the various events organised will be issued in the following weeks. The club would like to congratulate Grattans player Karl Murray who was a member of the Longford U-21 squad who beat Dublin in the Leinster Championship last week. The club wishes Karl and the squad more major success in the Leinster campaign. There was no winner of this or last week’s lotto. The lotto numbers for the weekend of 3rd March were 18, 24, 29, 30. The 20 euro winners were Kielan Ruske, Jim Devine, Tadgh Nerney This week’s lotto numbers for the weekend of the 10th March were 7, 14, 18, 29. The 20 euro winners were Marion Kane, Damian McDermott and Caroline Oates. Next week’s jackpot is 3, 200 euro.

MINOR-KILLOE: Well done to the Longford U-21 panel on a great win over Dublin in the Leinster Championship and best of luck in the next round. Next round of Leinster U-16 League is on Saturday 16th March in Clonee at 4pm v Newtown Blues from Louth. U-14 panel had two useful challenges in the last week v Mullahoran and Galway’s Salthill/Knocknacarra. U-14 Feile is due to take place this weekend and best of luck to all involved. Schoolboys defeated Stonepark in first round of the Championship on Friday. Registration is still due from some players and needs to be paid to Registrar Colm Hughes this coming week. Club offers its sympathy to McManus/ Brady family, Esker on their recent bereavement.

MINOR-WOLFE TONES: Our school team made a very good start to the school championship with a big win over St. Emer’s. This was a home game and the local team scored a total of 6-14 and outplayed the Longford side throughout the field. Next up is Killoe (report next week). Team on duty was C. Gilchriest, C. Shaughnessy, M. Lynn, M. Doyle, M. Purcell, R. Noonan, O. Staklem, R. Alaran, P. Nowacki, A. Garry, T. McLoughlin, L. Kenny, T. Hussey, M.O’Donohoe, and C. Nugent, All subs were used. On Saturday last the U-14 team played St. Vincent’s and Carrick/Sarsfields in the Feile Shield. Wolfe Tones looked very impressive and moved the ball from defence to attack with some precision passing and excellent scores. With two wins they now await the results of another group to see who they will play next. Panel on duty was C. Gilchriest, R. Noonan, T. Murtagh, J. Montgomery, S. Donnelly, O. Stakem, E. Murphy, D. The annual dinner dance takes place this Friday night in the Rustic Inn, Abbeyshrule. Local singer Ashling Wren and her band will provide the entertainment on the night. Tickets are still available and can be purchased from any club member. Well done to the Longford U-21 team on the magnificent win over Dublin last week. Local Lads Cillian Lynn and Johnny Murphy are members of the squad. Our coaching day in St. Mary’s School last Wednesday was a great success. Well done to all those who helped out on the day, as a result of the day our registration on Saturday morning last was also a great success. There were a lot of new comers to the U-8 and U-10 panels. Many parents of this age group came along and after registration all the children took part in games and entertainment provided. Congratulations to Isabella McGovern who was overall winner of the GAA Art competition and to Sarah Doyle who came second. This competition was organised by local GAA club and all the children from St. Mary’s N.S. participated in this competition. Isabella’s picture is displayed in all the shop windows throughout the town. We extend our deepest sympathy to the Nolan family, Camlisk on their recent family bereavement.

LADIES-BALLYMAHON/FORGNEY: The Senior ladies first League match took place at home in Leo Casey Pitch, on Saturday last and we were defeated. Final score: Ballymahon/Forgney 1-5 Killoe 2- 5. Under 14 and 16 training will take place on Leo Casey pitch, Tuesday 7-8pm. Under 10 and 12 training will take place on Leo Casey pitch, Wednesday 7–8pm. Under 10,12,14,and 16 training will take place on Friday evening also on Leo Casey pitch 7-8pm. Senior training will take place Monday and Thursday on Forgney pitch, 8-9pm. We have had a great turn out from all ages at training, and as always we welcome new players.

LADIES-CARRICKEDMOND: Senior Ladies training will continue next Friday evening at 7pm. On Saturday 16th March at 10am in the GAA grounds there is REGISTRATION for U12,U14,U16 & U18 girls and a short training session afterwards. Registration fee is 35 euro. All girls from the area are welcome to come along and meet with coaches, senior players and officials from the club. All girls are strongly advised to have Gum Shields. We will be holding a Clothes Collection in early April, so all girls give your wardrobes a major spring clean and make some money for your Club. More details to follow. We would like to offer the sympathy of the club to Rachel O’Farrell on the death of her grandfather Danny Killian recently.

LADIES-CLONGUISH: Our senior team started their league campaign last Sunday against Mostrim. Unfortunately it wasn’t a good start for us where Mostrim came out winners by 2 points. Training continues Tuesday at 8pm sharp and Friday at 7pm. We would like to welcome Andrew and David as our new trainers for the year.

LADIES-COLMCILLE: This year’s player’s registration is due this week and is payable to committee members Alison Jobe and Aine Brady at the following rates, 50 euro for Senior players, 40 euro for students and 30 euro for our underage members. Can each player please return your forms and complete registration at training. Our Paddy’s Weekend Mystery tour has been postponed. We hope to hold it at a later date. There will be a executive committee meeting this evening Wednesday at 8pm sharp in the clubhouse, can all committee members please attend. Our senior girls took on St. Helens in the first round of the Junior league on Sunday last. Despite the terrible playing conditions the girls fought hard to gain a 4-9 to 6-1 victory. Well done ladies, keep up the great work. Training continues this Thursday at 9pm sharp in Longford Fitness. LADIES-KILLOE: Spot the ball results 08/03/13 were 25 euro Josephine Reilly and 100 euro John Quinn. Congrats to our Juniors and Seniors who had a great start to the season. The juniors beat Ballymahon/ orgney on Saturday last and the seniors beat Ballymore on Sunday last . Well done girls. Best of luck to all the county teams that are out this weekend.

LADIES-LONGFORD SLASHERS: Our U-16 and Ladies squads are training on Friday evenings from 78pm and on Sunday mornings at 11.30am. U-14 training will be commencing in the next few weeks. Our bag packing in Dunnes stores has had to be postponed due to circumstance beyond our control. We will be getting alternative days in the summer. We had a very successful presentation recently to our victorious U-14 squad from last year. Hopefully we will have a few successful squads this year as well.

LADIES-MOSTRIM: We are holding a registration morning this Saturday between 10—12am in the clubhouse for all girls who intend to play football for the coming year from under 12 upwards. It is necessary that ALL players and parents of underage players attend. Registration is 50 euro for adults and 35 euro for underage players. Mostrim Ladies Football club in association with the Carers Association are selling St Patrick’s Day ribbons at 2 euro each with proceeds been divided between both organisations. Please support and buy a ribbon which are on sale in local shops. The Mostrim GAA annual dinner dance takes place this Friday 15th of March. A good night is guaranteed with the presentation of medals to the winning Junior Championship team. Tickets are available from Mick Burke and are 25 euro but are on concession at 10 euro for any member of last year’s Junior panel (only if bought prior to the dinner dance). Our senior team earned a hard fought victory in their first game of the league last Sunday against Clonguish. The opposition enjoyed the better of the exchanges in the opening ten minutes, clocking up a goal in the opening moments and three consecutive points which included a couple of frees. However, it didn’t take us long to get into the game as we battled hard and took some well taken points from play and it was the goal that separated the sides at the break. The game could have one gone either way in the second half but we continued to put in a great team performance. Our backs were under immense pressure in the second half but were impressive and steady throughout holding the opposition scoreless. Final score was 1-3. to 0-8. Team was M. Coyle, A. Coyle, L. Our senior, Minor and under 16s continue to train every Tuesday and Friday evening. All new and returning players are more than welcome to join. There are a number of Courses available from Longford GAA for any of our players or coaches. Goal keeping: (females only) Ladies Goalkeeping course, Open to all girls within the county and will run one Saturday each month until September. The tidy towns committee are looking for volunteers to help out at the annual Spring Clean on March 23rd at 2pm meeting at Quinn’s corner. Edgeworthstown has some major events coming up in the town this summer so it is important we keep our town clean and tidy. We are encouraging our members of get out and get involved with the great work this committee are doing.

LADIES-MULLINALAGHTA: Results of Bonus Ball Saturday 9th March. Winning Bonus Ball 37. Winner Majella Mooney, Leitrim. Well done to Majella, next draw is next Saturday March 16th. Tickets available from DP’s and there will also be tickets available at training so all players please bring their two euro. We held a successful registration night on Friday last 8th March where we registered 42 players and winner of the free membership was Emer Hand, Larkfield. LADIES-RATHCLINE: Training for seniors continues Friday night. All training info will be posted on facebook. Messages will be sent out to all underage players regarding under 14 and under 16 training at the weekend. Anyone who has yet to pay registration needs to do so asap. To date only 7 seniors have paid their registration fee so will the rest of you please pay the money to Madeleine or Paddy in the next week. The clothes collection is ongoing so if you have any unwanted clothing items you can drop them to any member of the executive.
