Hastings Cup U-21 Football Tournament – Group A Round 1

Longford . . . . . . . 2-11 Roscommon . . . . . . 0-4

Longford U-21s made a great start to the new season with a most emphatic win in the Hastings Cup Round 1 game at Pairc Chiaran in Cashel on Saturday.

Roscommon were rocked as Longford won by the wide margin of 13 points and will clinch their place in the Hastings Cup Final should they succeed in beating Wicklow in another home game on Saturday next while Cavan, Leitrim and Offaly are the counties competing in the other group.

Longford manager Eugene McCormack (Carrickedmond) watch his side shoot some excellent scores to establish a commanding 0-8 to 0-1 lead at the break.

And whatever hopes Roscommon had of salvaging the situation were well and duly dashed as Longford continued to dominate in adding another 1-2 to their tally in the early stages of the second half with Mark Hughes (Killoe) producing a classy finish to find the back of the net.
